PFAS Remedial Investigation

A Remedial Investigation (RI) is being conducted to evaluate per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) associated with known and potential undocumented aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) release areas located at the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility (RHBFSF). The purpose of the RI is to evaluate the nature and extent of potential PFAS impacts, and to characterize potential risks to human health and the environment associated with exposure to PFAS. The investigation is focused near Building (Bldg.) 313, including the areas outside and adjacent to the Adit 6 entrance where a release of AFFF occurred in November of 2022 during maintenance of the AFFF storage and pumping system for the Facility, as well as near the Red Hill Shaft (RHS) Water Pump House and at the western extent of the RHBFSF within the former Oily Waste Disposal Facility (OWDF).

RI field activities include quarterly groundwater monitoring for one year of selected wells within the Facility property; monitoring well installation, and groundwater sampling of newly installed wells; and surface and subsurface soil sampling in locations associated with the November 2022 release and in the vicinity of elevated PFAS concentrations in groundwater. This website provides links to the data and reports being generated by the RI and will be updated on an ongoing basis.
