Environmental Restoration, Navy (ER,N) Program at Red Hill

Community Involvement

Public participation is important for Environmental Restoration, Navy (ER,N) program response actions at Red Hill. Community involvement promotes communication between the public and the Navy concerning the status of remediation at ER,N program sites.

During the response action process, the Navy informs the community of action taken, responds to inquiries, and provides information about releases of hazardous substances. The Navy supports community involvement in the ER,N Program through multiple channels, including:

  • Information Repository and Administrative Record. Current information, technical reports, and reference materials regarding Red Hill and other ER,N sites are housed at the Information Repository at Aiea Public Library on Oahu, Hawaii. The Administrative Record File contains finalized documents, which form the basis for selection of the response action.
  • Pearl Harbor-Hickam Restoration Advisory Board (RAB). The RAB provides a forum for the exchange of information among the Navy, regulatory agencies, and the local community regarding environmental cleanup activities at ER,N sites within and near to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, including Red Hill, and offers the public an opportunity to provide input to the cleanup process.
  • Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (JBPHH) Community Involvement Plan (CIP). The Navy is currently updating the JBPHH CIP, which provides a strategy for meaningful community involvement throughout the environmental cleanup process.
